National Fund for Disabled of Kenya chairperson Kristina Kenyatta Pratt said the government should allocate more funds for disabled persons to help them start business to boost their lives.
Speaking in Naivasha on Tuesday, Kristina said funds should be increased from Sh200 million to Sh300 million in this financial year.
“The government has increased the funds but we are demanding for more because the number of disabled people is also increasing by day. For the last 7 years, we started from Sh100 million and we are urging the government to allocate more funds in the new financial year to help the increased number of people living with disability,” said Kristina.
The chairperson said disabled people need supporting tools among other things because some of them have difficulties in locomotion.
“Wheelchairs are required but the funds given are not enough. Disabled need also to trade by starting small businesses to earn a living. It is our hopes that the government will increase the allocation of funds,” said Kristina.
