Siaya County has had 34 cases of teachers being interdicted on disciplinary grounds in the last one year by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
Of these cases, already 14 have been heard and determined while 20 of the cases are still pending and the teachers removed from payroll as they await TSC verdict.
County TSC Director Samuel Marigat disclosed that among the 14 cases which have been determined, 4 are on immoral behaviours, 6 cases are on desertion and 4 are on negligence of duty.
In all the disciplinary cases recorded since last year June, Marigat said have resulted to interdiction only 3 female teachers with none being charged with immoral behaviour.
Marigat assured that TSC will not stop imposing disciplinary actions on teachers who violate learner’s rights and that they will continue following the setup guides to protect learners at all cost.
The new cases currently under inquiry involve teachers from Usire primary in Bondo sub-county, Nyakongo Koka’ng primary school in Alego/Usonga and Nyagondo secondary in Gem Sub-county.
At Nyakongo Kokang’ Primary school, the teacher in question is alleged to be a notorious child defiler and is reported to be engaging with pupils in immoral acts, a factor that led to his transfer from Ng’iya Girl’s primary school within the constituency.
The director beseeched teachers to foster integrity warning that flouting the law will attract harsh punitive action.
