The county government of Kiambu has raised concerns over the increasing cases of HIV/AIDS infection among youths.
According to the county's Health executive Joseph Murega, youths aged between 15-24 years are among the most affected group in HIV/AIDs infections.
Murega said that most of the youths realize that they are infected when they go testing for other diseases. He also said that the search for love and sense of belonging has greatly contributed rising in cases of infection in the county over the past years.
He was speaking on Friday in Limuru during a World Aids Day event.
“Young people of between the ages of between 15 and 24 are getting infected too much. Their number is still rising, while that of the middle-aged people is stagnant — meaning they have controlled the spread,” Murega said, as quoted by the Star.
Principal Secretary for Health Julius Korir said that the country is on the right path in the fight against the deadly disease, which has led to the deaths of millions across the world. The nation has made impressive progress in confronting HIV epidemic reducing the prevalence from 13 percent ten years ago to 6 percent
