Kieni MP Kanini Kega has urged Central Kenya residents to reject aspirants vying as independent candidates during the August polls.
Speaking over the weekend at Kanyagia in Nyeri County, the lawmaker described the independent candidates as spoilers, accusing them of fueling voter apathy in parts of Mt Kenya region.
“We hear these people are telling voters not to vote in August claiming they were rigged out. They are trying to sabotage the president’s vote but we will not allow that,” he said.
“People made their decision and that should be respected and the losers should move on,” he added.
Most of the independent candidates eyeing elective seats lost during the party primaries.
Kega, however, welcomed the independents' support for President Uhuru Kenyatta's reelection bid, cautioning them against blackmailing the Head of State.
“If you honestly support the president, then we are willing to work with you. But do not try bullying our president to back you in return,” he noted.
