Centre for Multiparty Democracy(CMD) Chairman Omingo Magara.​ [Photo/KBC TV].The recent change to the Elections Act 2012 blocking party hopping has spelt doom to the future of the Kenyan  political system in said the Centre for Multiparty Democracy(CMD) Chairman Omingo Magara.​The CMD has warned that the high rise of independent candidates from 350 in 2013 to 4000 in 2017 registered to vie in the August election is a threat to the party system in kenya.Magara said that there will be chaos in future in parliamentary proceedings since the institutions that should regulate party hopping has failed."Most of the party primaries were shambolic and there is a likelihood that the independent candidates who lost in the nominations will win during the coming General Election," said Magara during a press briefing at a hotel in Nairobi.Magara said in case the independent candidates win in the General Elections, then parliamentary speakers will have nightmares because such leaders are not loyal to any party and therefore they will have no party to guide them on the positions to take on issues raised in the House."Elections Law Amendments Act 2017 stipulates that a political party shall nominate its candidates for an election at least 90 days before a general election and that deadline is May 7,"  said Magara.Magara advised the IEBC to reconsider their stand on this whole matter because apparently time could not allow for a court appeal to seek changes to the electoral laws.
