Presidential aspirant Joseph Nyagah's bid for the country's top office received a boost after three co-aspirants stepped down and agreed to back him.
Independent candidates Peter Ondeng, Eliud Muthiora and David Mwonga made a formal communication to the press on Friday evening announcing their decision to rally behind the former cabinet secretary.
They said that Nyagah's aspirations were similar to theirs and that him being at the top represented them fully.
“We have been talking and sharing our ideologies, and after realising we are all speaking the same language, we agreed there was no need of us all contesting. We have instead opted for Nyagah, whom we feel has the experience and the ability to carry our aspirations in leading the country,” said Muthiora.
The withdrawal of the trio comes at a time the High Court has eased the course of independent candidates, allowing them to collect signatures even from voters who are already members of political parties.
While accepting the support from his counterparts, Nyagah hailed the High Court ruling and termed it a major victory.
He said he will go on with the campaigns as an independent, arguing that Kenyans are tired of political rhetorics in party formations that never offer solutions to their problems.
“We must move away from the old order of powerful political parties fighting for power for the sake of only swapping positions, but once in leadership perpetrate the same ills that their predecessors were fought for,” said Nyagah
