An official of Rongai Constituency Development Fund has hinted that many school-going children from poor backgrounds fail to qualify for education bursary funds, because head teachers in their respective schools accuse them of ‘indiscipline’.
Speaking on to residents of Rongai Consitituency at Kambi ya Moto on Friday during a community education sensitisation workshop, Rongai Constituency Development Fund committee secretary Leah Kipkoril said many students have missed out on the funds for being ‘indiscipline’, according to school reports.
Kipkoril told the residents that most children from poor backgrounds fail to benefit from the funds because the committee relies on the head teachers report about the children’s background, which entails discipline and academic performances.
“The committee relies on the head teachers report according to the policy on the allocation of the fund. We do not force out things but work according to the policy. Maybe parents should investigate the conduct of their children and sort out the issues with head teachers,’’ said Kipkoril.
She added that the constituency education bursary fund was open to any qualifying pupil or student and that the residents of the cosmopolitan region should not speculate on tribalism or favouritism as being applied in its allocation.
She further said that records of applications approval were available for scrutiny.
