Works on the long-awaited Industrial park in Naivasha will kick off before the end of the year according to Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui.
Kinyanjui said the park will be set up at Mai Mahiu.
“The water which will be sourced from Kinja dam in Kinangop will also benefit residents of Naivasha who for years have suffered due to the high level of fluoride in their water,” he said.
Kinyanjui was speaking in Ihindu center, Naivasha during a farmers open day.
“We are also keen to start avocado growing in Nakuru county as we have noticed that it is very profitable and we shall soon supply farmers with seedlings,” he said.
He added that plans were underway to hire and support agriculture extension officers across the county as one way of improving production.
On her part, the CEC for agriculture Dr. Immaculate Maina said the county had identified pyrethrum, potatoes, avocado and dairy as sectorsto revive.
“We shall be opening a 24-hour-call center where farmers will get free information regarding farm produce, fertilizers, pests and other agriculture information,” she said.
Naivasha MP Jane Kihara challenged the county and national governments to help revive the closed down Pan-Vegetable processing plant located in Naivasha.
“The Kenya defense force has opened a similar plant in Gilgil but this cannot help individual farmers and thus the need to open the Naivasha one,” she said.
