A five month old baby girl was Friday burnt to death in Mwariki B Coca Cola Estate, Nakuru town as the mother watched television at the neighbour’s house.
Confirming the incident, Nakuru OCPD Bernard Kioko said the death was reported by Sarah Akoth, mother to the deceased.
“Akoth confirmed to us that she gone to watch television in her neighbour's house at around 7.15pm leaving behind boiling water on a cooking jiko but on returning, found the mattress she had laid the baby on on fire,” said Kioko.
Efforts by Neighbours and the mother to rescue the baby did not bear fruits as she died due to suffocation and several severe burns.
The infant’s body was moved to Nakuru County mortuary for post-mortem.
Elsewhere police officers are hunting down suspects alleged to have plotted killing of two middle-aged men in a bar in Pakawa Estate.
The two bodies belonging to Paul Ngugi and Patrick Maina were recovered dumped at the bar with deep knife injuries.
Kioko said the incident was reported by Helen wanjiku, a bar operator that two customers one known to her as Roba went to the bar at around 9pm and ordered drinks.
The two customers are said to have taken alcohol worth Sh1, 400 but failed to clear the bill forcing the woman to confiscate a Nokia phone in their possession.
The woman said she locked the phone in a counter and went to sleep as she was feeling dizzy handing over the keys for safe custody to Paul Ngugi, a colleague who was at the bar with his friend Patrick Maina.
Kioko said the woman claims to have woken up at around 2am and found the counter door open and a dvd player valued at Sh5, 000 and the Nokia phone missing.
On trying to trace her colleague, she shockingly saw his body and that of the friend he was with killed and dumped outside the bar with deep injuries.
