The baby’s cries allegedly attracted the attention of a woman passing by the roadside who came to its rescue on Monday. The baby had been wrapped in a polythene paper.

Margaret Nyakio, who rescued the baby explained how she was waiting for a friend on the roadside when she allegedly heard the baby crying.

“I had been there for more than 20 minutes and she was still crying. I thought it was in the neighbourhood but when the crying persisted, I decided to check and that is when I found it lying wrapped in a polythene paper,” Margaret explained.

The baby was taken to Karuri hospital where she was received by Dr Richard Munene who took care of her. Kiambu Sub-county children’s officer Rachel Wambui took the child to Kiambu Children’s home where she will be taken care of.

Following the incident, Kiambu sub-county police officers have launched a crackdown in the area to identify the woman behind the crime.

Sub-county police boss Stephen Ng’etich confirmed that they have launched investigations and once they arrest the culprit, she will be prosecuted.

The woman who rescued the baby has allegedly offered to take care of the child as she is childless.
