A section of residents living near Saint Xavier’s Primary School now claim the influx of traders in the area is a security problem.
The residents claim that after the county government flushed out the hawkers from the CBD, many of them rmoved to the area, posing a danger to the residents.
“They just came and set up their stalls without prior warning. The place became full of people who we do not know,” said Janet Keru, a resident.
She cited that they now lived in fear of their houses having to be broken into.
Another resident Agnes Wangari says that the hawkers had set up stalls right outside their houses, blocking their entrance.
“They keep on piling and soon, we fear, they will block all our exits,” she cited.
A teacher at the school, who sought anonymity said that school children were now running away from school to buy snacks.
“They have brought goodies near the children. The pupils are now running away at any opportune time to buy snacks. We fear that there can be increased cases of accidents as children try to rush back and forth to beat their deadlines,” said the teacher.
