President Uhuru Kenyatta would beat Opposition chief Raila Odinga if an election was to be held today, an opinion poll by Ifotrak has said.
However, Uhuru would fall short of the 50 per cent plus one vote required to avoid a run-off.
One must garner at least 50 per cent plus one of the total votes cast, failure to which the top two candidates would be subjected to a second round of voting - a run-off.
According to the survey conducted between March 6 and 10 this year, Uhuru was the preferred candidate for 45 per cent of those interviewed while Odinga would be elected by 28 per cent of the interviewees.
In the same Infotrak polls, Deputy President William Ruto was the preferred candidate for 1.2 per cent of the respondents.
Wiper Party and Cord co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka would be voted in by only 2.5 per cent of those interviewed.
Peter Kenneth of the Eagle Coalition got 2.2 per cent, while another Cord co-principal and Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula had 1.1 per cent.
Wetangula is expected to launch his presidential bid early next month.
Musalia Mudavadi (Amani National Congress) and Martha Karua (Narc- Kenya) were ranked 0.5 and 0.7 respectively by the survey report.
