(www.nairobiwire.com)Infotrak CEO Angela Ambitho has defended the recent released poll numbers from both her company and that of IPSOS Kenya where both the leading presidential candidates have different numbers.
According to Ambitho, the polls were done during different durations that played a significant role in shaping the results of the polls.
In Infotraks survey, NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga leads by 47% while his competitor President Uhuru Kenyatta closely trails him by 46%. On the other hand, IPSOS Kenya survey shows President Kenyatta at 47% while Raila is at 43%.
"There are a lot of factors that determine the result of a survey and one of them is the time the survey is conducted. IPSOS conducted its survey much earlier in July while Infotrak conducted it much recently and thus the difference in figures from the results," said Ambitho.
The pollster however reiterated that it was unlikely for the country to go to a runoff in case elections were held today.
Ambitho believes the undecided vote standing at 6% from Infotrak will play a major role in differentiating the winner of the election. The undecided, she said, are not yet convinced on who to support and if either Uhuru or Raila convinces them then they will win the elections in the first round.
"It is highly unlikely that the country will go to a presidential runoff. This is because the undecided vote stands at 6%. This number represents people who have not yet been convinced on who to vote and once Raila or Uhuru does this then the election is going to be won in round one of the presidential contest," added Ambitho.
Ambitho made the remarks during an interview on NTV on Sunday.
