Nyalenda women's group have challenged Kisumu county government to come up with a drug abuse campaign as a way of reducing the high rate of drug abuse in the region.
Speaking on Thursday at Nyalenda B Estate at a women awareness program, rural gender sociologist Florence Atera called upon efforts to reduce the high rate of drug taking in estates.
Atera noted that they were running various campaigns using women, boda boda riders and youth groups to promote the eradication of drug abuse.
“We have initiated a drug free campaign around our estates and we are urging the locals to attend such forums," said Atera.
She further noted that the high rate of alcoholism amongst youths was very rampant and she therefore asked leaders to come up with mechanisms which will help youths to get focused.
Nyalenda youth representative Joseph Obunga on the same note also said that drug abuse campaigns was important especially to the youths adding that they also needed to come up with activities that would keep locals from idling which mostly leads to drug abuse.
