Kisumu County government is on the spot for not initiating youth mentorship programmes.

Addressing journalists at county social hall, Kisumu County residents spokesperson, Audi Ogada, challenged the county government for neglecting youths. 

“Mentorship programmes are meant to keep youths in check. The programme promotes self esteem among youths makes them become responsible and helps them to be self worthy in life,” says Ogada. 

Ogada reiterated that youth mentorship programme, helps in opening opportunities and understanding among young people.  

“If we do not incorporate most of our efforts in mentoring our youths then we killing tomorrows generation. The county government need to start a youth mentorship programme,” said Ogada. 

We also need to use our youths to be trainers to other youths. 

Rural gender sociologist Florence Atera also emphasised on the importance of youth’s mentorship as it lead to capacity building and empowerment to the youths.

Atera added that an empowered and mentored youth was economy friendly as most would have acquired self esteem and inner drive, hence using skills acquired in being self worthy.
