An initiative dubbed Watoto Wasome has been launched for East Kolwa schools in Kisumu East Constituency.

The initiative’s patron, Steve Owiti, said he will ensure that the initiative achieves its intended purpose.

“The purpose of this initiative is to mobilise funds through friends and ensure the less privileged pupils who are bright continue with their education,” he said.

Owiti said it is will be an annual event to sponsor mocks for class eight pupils and give awards to boost their education.

Speaking at Rweya Primary School during the award ceremony-cum-launch of the initiative on Friday, Owiti said education is key to development and urged parents to ensure their children attend school.

The best boy in the examinations in Rweya zone was Aaron Owino from Nyamunge Primary School whose dream school is Lenana High.

Owino said he has been working hard in school and is very optimistic that he will excel in the coming KCPE.

He said the new initiative is giving them hope that they will get education no matter their financial background.

“I am from a poor family and now I have hope that I will pursue my dream of becoming an engineer,” he said.

Patricia Olum from St. Patrick Mahenya who emerged among the best girls said the initiative is the best way to improve education in the area.

Olum called for more support among school going children to enable them achieve their dreams.
