An Inmate from Thika GK Prison was on Wednesday arraigned before Thika Law Court for being in possession of 300 rolls of bhang and a mobile phone within the prison.
Appearing before Chief Magistate Esther Mburu, the accused Bernard Mbugua was also charged with being violent and hindering prison Warders from performing routine check in the jail.
Prosecuting Chief Inspector Dan Kiruai told the Court that the accused was in a group of Inmates paraded for a routine check at Thika GK Prisons in June 9 2014, but engaged the Warders into a duel after refusing to be inspected.
He was however over powered after the Warders carrying out the inspection called for reinforcement from other Warders who discovered that a bandage that the accused had on his right foot was a hoax all through as he had hidden the contraband in the bandage for the eight months he had been in the cells.
"When the bandage was ripped open, the Warders discovered 300 rolls of bhang with street value of Sh8,200 and a mobile phone valued at Sh7,500 carefully stashed inside a black polythene paper,” said the Prosecutor.
The case was however adjourned for next hearing scheduled in May 9 this year pending a medical report from doctors as the accused is said to be under medical care for undisclosed ailment.
