The facility’s welfare officer Moses Kodek said that there are increasing incidents of people pirating the inmates’ music, selling their work for a cheaper price.

Speaking to the press in the facility, Kodek argued that this was unfair as many of the inmates were struggling to record their songs.

“We have more than three choirs belonging to Catholic, SDA and Protestant churches and they raise cash by selling their albums. They go out to perform and the money is transferred to our department. That’s the only way they raise their money,” he added

Kodek cited that it was inhuman and unfair for people to steal the inmates’ music.

“They have nothing except their music. We are calling for MCK to ensure that the people who are copying their songs are arrested,” he added

The officer In charge of the facility Patrick Mwenda said that those who pirated the music were killing the inmates’ creativity and spirit.

“It’s so sad to see someone toil to produce a worthwhile song and have it wiped by a few greedy individuals. We are appealing to the relevant authorities to help in curbing this vice,” Mwenda said.
