The organisation's officials held a press conference on Saturday and issued the below statement:

"PRESS RELEASE

STATE OF THE NATION

DETERIORATING STATE OF HUMAN RIGHTS IN THE COUNTRY

HAKI Africa is gravely concerned and is hereby raising an alarm of the current state of worsening human rights situation in the country.

For a country which has the bill of rights as the biggest chapter in the constitution, the human rights situation is appalling.

Police are currently failing to address insecurity and at the same time operating with impunity and violating fundamental freedoms of the people.

While all this is happening, political leaders appear to be concentrating on their career survival and 2022 planning instead of addressing human rights issues which are drastically affecting Kenyans.

As an organisation, we are calling for an urgent dialogue on Chapter 4: Bill of Rights to speak to the deteriorating human rights situation in the country.

Kenyans must be guaranteed all the rights that are enshrined in the Constitution of Kenya."
