The recently released report by the KNHCR has indicated that runaway insecurity in Nairobi is claiming more lives as compared to other criminal activities.

Statistics availed by the commission indicate that since 2010, close to two thousand people have been shot dead in armed criminal related incidents.

Releasing general information on the country's state of insecurity, the KNHCR chairperson, Kagwiria Mbogoria noted that over 180,000 have been displaced by terror activities across the country.

Speaking on Tuesday, Kagwiria reported that insecurity has been manifesting itself in terror incidents ranging from international attackers to local criminal gangs. In Nairobi, local gangs were blamed for internal terror activities especially from middle and low-class citizens. The crime hotspots in Nairobi are mainly in slum areas where residents opt for armed robberies to earn their daily bread.

The commission also reported that security officers are the new target in the emerging terror trends across the country. The chair further reiterated that it is the mandate of KNHCR to monitor both the governmental and non -governmental security actors in a bid to ensure that they comply with national and international human rights thresholds.
