Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua’s bid to succeed president Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022 is on course.

The Maendeleo Chap Chap governor has openly stated that he is the best fit candidate to succeed Uhuru Kenyatta.

In the recent weeks, governor Mutua has been making torus across the country in efforts to lobby for support as the clock ticks fast ahead of the 2022 polls.

According to political analyst Peter ngure, Mutua is employing various strategies to woo for support and sale his 2022 bid.

In an interview on Wednesday, Ngure said that Mutua has already set his campaign in motion even as he serves his last term as governor.

“Governor Alfred  Mutua seems to have laid down the ground for his bid to succeed president Kenyatta basing on the activities  he has been engaging  in recently,” he said.

Ngure says that Mutua’s recent trips to Nyeri, Kakamega, and Baringo were politically motivated. He said that Mutua is lobbying from top leaders that have a huge following in terms of voters.

The analyst adds that the reconciliation between Mutua and Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana is a strategy.

The analyst  said that Mutua wants to use Kibwana to reach out to his longtime political nemesis’s Kalonzo Musyoka ahead of 2022.

“The possibility of Mutua re-uniting with Kalonzo is a high and if these happens it would boost the governor’s 2022 bid,” he adds.

Last month Mutua hinted that he would convene a Kamba leader’s unity meeting to chart the community’s way forward ahead of 2022.

Mutua’s statement came after Kalonzo had a meeting in Matungulu that saw him endorsed for the top seat.

Ngure said that Mutua is likely to get more aggressive moving forward and his push to succeed Uhuru Kenyatta cannot be watered down.

The analyst  observes  that governor Mutua’s performance in terms of development will be his big sailing agenda’s he seeks the top seat.
