The National Transport and Sfaety Authority (NTSA) has released a new curriculum which is aimed at reducing road carnage.

Francis Meja the NTSA Director General said the updated curriculum should equip the drivers with the right education and skills to ensure that they put road safety first in a dynamic environment.

"More than 90 percent of accidents result from human error.

"The curriculum has been designed to address the different needs of drivers depending on the vehicles they use, "Meja stated.

The new educational curriculum is split into various modules that take on driver training and testing of motorcycles, light vehicles, public vehicles and heavy commercial vehicles.

The curriculum also covers the drivers of agricultural machinery and professional drivers.

Meja stated that a certain focus would be placed on the training of public service vehicle drivers as they are to be blamed for any instance of reckless driving.

This programme also entails practical and examination sections as well as being backed by legislation that will see the formation of new agencies to oversee driver training and examinations.

"These bodies will be closely involved in future improvement and development of driving standards in Kenya in the years to come.

"I am grateful to the staff of the authority and all those who participated in the development and production of this curriculum," Meja concluded.
