Following a police shooting of a women in Nairobi the Independent Policing Oversight Authority is asking witnesses to come forward and testify regarding the incident.

According to reports, the officer accused of shooting Ann Wairimu was caught on video and those responsible for recording were arrested for allegedly inciting the public against the police.

The phones were confiscated and however the video recordings had already been shared on social media.

Police official Reagan Akoko was near the scene when the incident transpired.

"The officer approached the car with the intention of requesting him to clear the road. However, a confrontation ensued and the driver of the car grabbed [the officer's AK47 S/NO KP-17121095]. [He grabbed] the muzzle and extended his hand to the trigger, leading to the discharge of one shot,” Akoko stated as reported The Star.

According to the OB, Wairimu received bullet wounds in her right hand and left thigh.

The 23 year old was then rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital and underwent surgery.

Charles Owino who is the police spokesman says the shooting was not intentional and that the fault lied with the driver.
