Residents of Mosobeti township in Nyamira have urged Safaricom to improve its 3G network in the region as a way of increasing communication via mobile phones.
Led by ODM youth leader Boaz Mokaya, they said accessing faster and reliable internet services on Safaricom line was hectic since the 3G network only serves Kisii town.
They said the network was essential since it would reduce costs incurred when visiting cyber cafes, which allegedly charge them exorbitantly.
“The 3G network, which is faster and reliable, is only within Kisii and its environs. It is essential for the company to extend an olive branch to us by installing it within our region,” he said.
“We cannot be able to access internet services, which are essential in this time and era. Unfortunately though, cyber café businesses have taken advantage to exploit us. The distances to the nearest cyber cafes is quite far also,” he said.
They also asked the leading mobile phone provider to also consider reducing their charges on internet bundles for accessing internet to prices which are affordable.
Currently, the 3G network serves in Kisii town, Nyamira, Keroka and Nyansiongo, but has not been extended to remote areas.
