Installation of street lights at Kimathi street within Thika town constituency in Kiambu county has started and the exercise will be completed by the end of this week.
This is according to area MP Patrick Wainaina.
The lawmaker said he is committed to ensure their are lights during the night across the constituency to boost the economy in the region.
"Street lights will be installed at Kimathi Street throughout this week to ensure traders and residents are safe at night because criminals are using the dark to terrorize people will be scared," he said.
He challenged traders to come up with businesses which they will run 24 hours to boost their income and earnings.
"No trader will be asked to pay for the street lights for this reason therefore, I ask traders to set up businesses which will run 24 hours to improve their livelihoods," he added.
He warned that anyone who will be found tampering with the street lights will be dealt with accordingly.
The MP urged residents to be vigilant and report any criminal they will spot interfering with the street lights.
He promised that the street lighting program will be extended to all mapped areas as identified and also complete on all the previously started lighting projects in Thika town constituency.
Wainaina was speaking on Tuesday when he toured Kimathi street where the installation of lights is currently ongoing.
