Amani National Congress party leader Musalia Mudavadi is rooting for police reforms that will help curb extra-judicial killings.
He said rogue police officers are enjoying massive protection from their superiors through corruption, something that has made it hard to prosecute them.
He said the issue of police investigating themselves should stop, stating that there is no way a police would investigate and bring a conclusive investigation.
Mudavadi called on the Independent Police Oversight Authority to carry out independent investigations to avoid manipulated results from the police.
He also called for the establishment of a special judicial inquiry to unravel the mysterious deaths and extrajudicial killings and other murders that have been witnessed in the country.
He added that the murders of human rights lawyer Willie Kimani, his client Josephat Mwendwa and taxi driver Joseph Muiruri were not the only extrajudicial killings but others too existed that have not been unraveled.
“The government must bring to an end the mysterious killings going on in the country. We should not condone such heinous acts. These death squad in the police force should be brought to an end,” said Mudavadi.
