Thika sub-county traffic Base Commander Benjamin Kiprono has hit on Thika Institute of Business Studies (TIBS) Administration and Students for alleged failure to follow traffic rules, causing unnecessary accidents along Thika Super-Highway.
Kiprono said that the students have been crossing the highway at any point they wish, yet there are designated foot-bridges and pedestrian crossing points.
He added that the recently ‘murdered’ student by a driver who hit and ran cannot be blamed on anyone as both of the parties were on the wrong side and did not bother obeying the traffic rules.
Last year, the NTSA officers were deployed along the highway near the institution which led to the arrest of more than 30 students and some members of the public who were crossing the road at the centre ignoring the foot-bridges and the pedestrian crossing points.
Commander Kiprono said that the institution will be held accountable for the Wednesday’s arrest of 13 students who were caught unawares by the area traffic police officers breaking traffic rules.
An attempt to get the institution’s Principal by this writer did not bear fruits as the gate guards blocked her from getting into the office, thus according to a source who pleaded anonymity, the institution has already made plans to ensure they take over the bills needed as fines for the offence by the students.
The students are in the mean time in Thika police custody waiting to be arraigned in court.
