The economy of Mombasa will continue to suffer if Governor Hassan Joho retains his seat, Senator Hassan Omar has said.
Omar, who is seeking to unseat Joho on a Wiper Party ticket, said the Governor has made a habit of insulting President Uhuru Kenyatta in campaign rallies in order to earn sympathy votes at the expense of development.Speaking during a rally at Tononoka grounds in Mvita, Omar said Mombasa residents will only vote for leaders with exemplary development records.Omar promised to give Joho a run for his money in the August polls, and challenged him to tell residents what he has done for them since taking over power four years ago."Abusing the President is not heroism. We can only celebrate you if you deliver on the development promises you made and created jobs for the jobless youth," said Omar, as quoted by The Star. The Mombasa gubernatorial race has also attracted Suleiman Shahbal of Jubilee and Nyali MP Hezron Awiti of Vibrant Democratic Party (VDP).
