Integrated IDPs have lamented over the delay of the second phase of the resettlement process, citing that the government was going against what it had promised.

The IDPs argued that they were slowly being forgotten by the government against their wishes.

Speaking to journalists in Nakuru, National chair for IDPS Peter Kariuki noted that the government had pledged to start the second phase mid last year, but nothing was forthcoming.

“They just hang in the balance, nothing has ever been communicated to them regarding being resettled. The fact that they chose not to live in camps does not make them less IDPs,” said Kariuki.

“We are appealing to the government to ensure that their welfare is looked into and they also get the two and a quarter acre of land that they were promised,” he added.

Kariuki further added that they had the original list of both the Integrated and non-integrated IDPs.

His views were echoed by the National IDPs treasurer Beatrice Nyokabi, who said that there were reported cases of Integrated IDPs, who had not received the original Sh10,000, that the government had given out to them.

“We have some who are still struggling to earn a living, they cannot even afford to raise meals and this has become a huge problem as they are weak. We are appealing to the government to come to their aid,” she said.
