Lobbying for the remaining slots in President Kenyatta’s cabinet continues, with leaders from different areas pushing for their members to be included in the team.

Jubilee members from Turkana County have shown their gratitude after the president appointed John Munyes to the cabinet.

Speaking on Sunday, the leaders thanked the president for the consideration.

“We know we did a good job in August, as a Jubilee team we did our best to ensure President Kenyatta was elected in August and in October as well. We are pleased that he has acknowledged our work that is why he gave us the slot,” said Daniel Epuyo, Turkana West MP.

With only nine slots filled and a possible 13 yet to be filled, the president and his deputy face a tough balancing act in deciding who to pick.

The two have to consider gender, expertise and regional balance and political interest.

Lobbying is said to be continuing behind the scenes, with politicians and interest groups pushing to have themselves or their interest individuals are given the chance.

The naming of the cabinet on Friday was welcomed by mixed reactions, with reports indicating Deputy President William Ruto was not happy with the list.

He has however denied the claims, urging Kenyans, more especially Jubilee members to give the president time and the space to pick his team as it is his constitutional right.
