Controversial 90s televangelist of the ‘miracles babies’ fame has been slapped with a sh10 million bond by high judge justice Luka kimaru after being detained since last year for allegations of child trafficking along with his wife Mary Deya.
The preacher made headlines in the 90s and early 2000 after he claimed he could enable barren women obtain children miraculously before the 9 months normal period elapses. He also claimed to have the cure for HIV/AIDS and cancer in form of olive oil. He was born in Juja
Gilbert Deya was born to Samuel Onyanda Deya and Monica Nono Deya who worked at sisal plantations in Juja, in modern day Kiambu County in 1952. He is number 11 of Mr. Onyanda’s 15 children.
He never went past primary school
In the book "Deya and the miracle babies" biographer Michael Gakuru depicts Deya as man who came from abject poverty and lived in a congested house in Juja together with his parents and 15 siblings. He was unable to continue with formal education because of lack of finances.
He married a minor
His equally controversial wife Mary Deya was 14 years old when she got married to him. He was 21 at the time and together they have 5 children excluding the ones which were conceived and born miraculously.
He once pronounced a ‘curse’ on President Kibaki
The controversial preacher once castigated former president Mwai Kibaki and former attorney general Amos Wako for failing to stop his prosecution because he was an important world figure. Even going as far to quote John 12:9-11 a bible that talks about how Lazarus was almost killed after being raised from the dead by Jesus in a bid to stop the ministry of Jesus. He ended the defense session by ‘cursing’ the two leaders.
