Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka. The ministry of Interior and National coordination has lost Sh200m to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
This is after the IEBC commission requested the fee to meet additional costs occasioned by the High Court decision to extend the Mass Voter Registration by five days.
The IEBC said it had not budgeted for an extension, which cost them Sh200 million in administrative costs and pay for registration officers. The commission was spending Sh40 million daily for its operations during the additional period.
The Budget and Appropriations Committee chaired by Mutava Musyimi reallocated the money from the Ministry of Interior and National Coordination.
Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka, a member of the committee, said the team sliced the ministry’s budget on non-priority areas.“We have given the IEBC what they had requested to meet the overhead incurred by the commission,” he said.
