Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has alleged that Interior Ministry PS Karanja Kibicho has been threatening him together with other top government officials.
Sonko was speaking on Kameme Fm on Monday and said a group of senior government officials who were working under Former president Mwai Kibaki are keen to undermine him as he seeks to take Nairobi county to greater heights.
According to Sonko, the threats are coming in with regards to who will be his deputy to fill the position that was left vacant after the fall out with Mr Polycarp Igathe who resigned.
"The deputy governor will be a Kikuyu because they have a larger population that supported me. Let me choose the Kikuyu I want, a technocrat, a professional, an elite and not the one Karanja Kibicho wants," said Sonko.
"He has no power to intimidate me, he should concentrate on the work he was given to do by the president," he added.
"When I refuse he sends me messages to intimidate me on small issues such as why my vehicle has a Kenyan flag and he threatens me," he said.
Sonko said he will consult both President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto before choosing his deputy governor.
