Investors in the coastal region have expressed their happiness following the increased arrival of international tourists.
The Daily Nation Saturday quoted the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) acting chief Executive Officer Jacinta Nzioka, who said the arrivals of tourists at the Moi International Airport in Mombasa is 57,219 compared to 48,031 in 2015.
This increase translates to 19.1% which is good for the economy of the region and the entire nation.
The increase in arrivals is a clear indicator that the tourism sector in the region is recovering from a slump witnessed a few months ago.
Nzioka has said that the increasing number of tourists coming into the country can be attributed different factors including the Sh1.2 billion charter incentive programme as well as a waiver of the fee for those aged below 16 years old.
The tourism board also reduced the parking fee in most national parks and national reserves in a bid to attract more tourists into the country.
“KTB will capitalise on the low park fees to woo more safari seekers from both traditional and emerging markets to help revive the industry,” said Nzioka, as quoted by the Daily Nation.
She also said the European Union has lifted travel advisories issued against the country.
