Business operations in Naivasha were temporarily halted on Friday morning after butchery workers took to the streets over closure of area slaughterhouse in unclear circumstances.
They accused Nakuru County government of trying to lock them out of business by shutting down the facility.
Waving placards and chanting slogans, the butchers went to the Naivasha sub-county offices demanding to be addressed by relevant authorities.
Sub-county Head of Livestock and Fisheries Department Mariam Nakir assured them that the issue would be addressed.
"I had personally visited the relevant ministry earlier in the week and I can assure you that everything is being attended to. Let's allow dialogue to take centre-stage because demonstrations risk blowing the whole issue out of hand," she said.
George Githinji, chairman of the Naivasha slaughterhouse who spoke on behalf of the over 50 businessmen faulted the county for failing to clear water bill arrears of close to one million.
"Let this blame game end because somebody somewhere within the ranks at the county headquarters must be in the know of what has led to Naivasha Water and Sewage Company disconnecting water supply to the slaughterhouse," he said.
Mr Githinji further expressed his skepticism on how the matter was being conducted, adding that that not withstanding, their ultimate goal was to see the slaughterhouse re-opened because their businesses were being closed due to lack of meat supply.
