Parents at the Coast have been challenged to introduce their children to technology field to enable them to compete with the changing world.

The Executive Director of SwahiliPot-Hub, a technology and art center based in Mombasa, Mahmoud Noor said that children need a grasp of how the technology world is so that they develop an interest in pursuing careers related to technology.

He said SwahiliPot-Hub center launched ‘Techno kids’ program that uses equipment and other appliances friendly to children with an aim of building technology interest among children at the Coast.

Mr. Noor revealed that though the center is located in Mombasa it serves the whole Coast region and parents can register their children for the program.

He said that the world was changing and children should understand the technology at a tender age so that they discover many opportunities in the field.

“We are calling upon the Coastal county government to partner with SwahiliPot-Hub and set up technology and art center to tap on the many talents among children and youth,” said Mahmoud.

He said that with every county having a technology and art center, no youth will be begging for employment in the few industry and companies at the Coast.

“We are also mentoring the children and try to discover their talents, by doing so even their parents will be able to unearth their children’s strength and weaknesses as well,” he said.

Mahmoud also appealed to the County government of Mombasa and other nongovernmental organization together with public and private organizations to sponsor various technology and arts program so that more children and youth can be registered to and discover their talents as well as learn new technology advances.

On her part, SwahiliPot-Hub Chairperson Fatma Mkwariza said that the center was steadily growing and called on the central and Coastal governments to support it so that it takes the technology and arts scene to a bigger level in the region and countrywide as well.
