The Ministry of Education has been challenged to introduce lunch programs in schools for children living with disabilities.
Addressing journalists in Kisumu, Nyalenda Member of County Assembly (MCA) James Were asked the government to consider introducing feeding programs in such schools.
According to Were who is also a director at Ringroad Orphanage Primary School in the estate, children living with disabilities find it difficult to run back home for meals after their classes.
“It is difficult for the children living wit disabilities to go to school and run back home after classes for breakfast and lunch,” he said.
The MCA also urged the county government to liaise with the national government and construct more learning facilities for the children in the county.
Earlier on, the Kisumu county governor Jack Ranguma said that more schools to accommodate children living with various forms of disabilities will be built across the county.
“My government has initiated various projects including Kisumu Urban Project to put up schools with facilities friendly to students living with disabilities,” he said.
