Presidential Guard police last Sunday shot dead an intruder at the State House compound when President Uhuru Kenyatta was attending a golf tourney in Muthaiga.

According to Nation, the unidentified middle-aged man had illegally accessed the highly guarded grounds moments before 5 pm and had reached the parking area located a few metres from the main building before elite General Service Unit officers guarding the grounds spotted him.

Security officials say that the intruder had jumped a wall since there was no likelihood of him accessing the compound through the gates that require strict authorisation.

Conflicting sources say that the man was armed with a knife while others say he was unarmed.

Nation reports that the officers called in the State House fire team to clean up the area while the body was taken to the City Mortuary by the police and booked as “unknown man" shot along Dennis Pritt Road.

“The President was briefed about the incident as he left Muthaiga Golf Club,” said one of our sources.

State House Spokesman Manoah Esipisu has however declined to comment on the matter.

“I won’t respond to that,” he told the Nation on Saturday.

Also, Inspector-General of Police Joseph Boinnet, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss Muhoro Ndegwa, and Nairobi County Commander Japheth Koome did not respond to inquiries on Friday despite several calls and phone messages.
