The government plans to conduct Inua Jamii Cash Transfer awareness campaign in all the sub-counties within Mombasa County.
The coordinator of Inua Jamii Cash Transfer in Mombasa County Mr Dayton Kileta said that most of the elders are suffering in silence since they are not aware of the funds being provided by the government.
Mr Kileta said that they will make plans to raise public awareness as they target to register 7000 elders in all the Mombasa Sub -counties before the end of August this year.
Speaking to hundreds of elders at the Tononoka Social Hall Mr Kileta urged all the elders aged 70 years and above to come out in large number and be registered so they can benefit from the funds.
The coordinator said all the registered elders in the stipulated age bracket will receive the Sh2000 monthly stipend from the government.
“We have targeted to register about 7000 elders in this county alone. I urge all the elders aged above 70 years should come out and register to receive the amount allocated for them by the government,” he said.
“Most of the elders within Mombasa County are not well informed about the existence of the programme and we will conduct a stiff awareness campaign in all the sub-counties within Mombasa County,” said Mr Kileta as quoted by Baraka FM.
Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala who was also present said the government has rolled out another programme targeting all the elders aged 70 years and above which will officially start operating as from January 2018.
“The government has rolled out another programme specifically for youth that will start operating from January 2018. The elders will also receive a free medical insurance cover,” the CS said.
