Kenya Seed Company limited has urged farmers to invest in quality seeds.

According to the marketing manager Robert Musyoka, the company whose core business is to develop, produce, import and market vegetable legumes assured farmers of high agricultural yields if they invest in quality seeds.  

Speaking during Simlaw seeds training held at Kisumu hotel, the county livestock, agriculture and fisheries acting CEC  Dr Rose Kisia said that high quality seeds are important in ensuaring high yields.

"If the quality of your seeds is not good then you expect poor harvest despite the application of fertiliser and other ingredients,” said Dr Kisia.  

She added:"I just want to encourage farmers to only plant seeds from certified companies such Simlaw, Kenya seed company and not seeds from the previous harvest."

Dr Kisia further called upon government employees and the seeds company to educate farmers on the benefits of investing in quality seeds.

"I am encouraging agricultural extension officers to go to the farmers on the ground and educate them need to buy certified seeds," she said

Dr Kisia said that most counties take agriculture as the number 1 when it comes to economic pillar

"Even counties in the North Eastern region have invested heavily in irrigation scheme for food security.In Kisumu County agriculture is our number one pillar and extension of food security that comes with it," said Kisia.

The event was attended by agents, NGOs, County government officers in charge of Agriculture and agrovets retails owners Busia,Homabay,Siaya, Migori and Kisumu.
