Nyamira County has been challenged to invest more in the education sector and desist from depending solely on the national government in the process of promoting the sector.
Led by nominated Senator Janet Onge’ra in Nyaronge village, they asked Governor John Nyararama to assist in improving and equipping area schools with enough books for libraries.
They said education should been treated as a collective function of both levels or government and the community if at all the region was ready to improve the deteriorating educational standards.
“There has been a confusion that national government should run the education but that is from the legal point of view. However, that does not mean that governors are not allowed to improve the situation,” Ong’era said.
“I call upon the county government of Nyamira to consider equipping schools with books. I believe we have enough resources to help improve the educational standards in the region which has deteriorated substantially,” added Chepilat MCA Alfayo Mwongeresa.
They also challenged the county government to build ECDE classrooms in every existing primary school in a bid to create jobs for ECDE graduates.
“Even though the county government has tried to build ECDE classes in the county, it is important that it ensures every primary school is served with ECDE centre so that our young graduates will have a chance to teach at home,” said Buttah Omanga of Bogichora.
