Speaking at Langas estate yesterday, the MCA said that he has received complaints from the hawkers of being harassed.

The MCA said that the county government must protect all hawkers and traders in the area.

“The government should investigate and take action against council askaris allegedly harassing hawkers,” he said.

The MCA said that hawkers contribute largely to the county economic development and must be protected.

At the same time, the MCA urged the county to build modern stalls for hawkers.

He observed that hawkers have no stalls and sheds to conduct their work and are often inconvenienced by harsh rays of the sun and rain.

The MCA said the government has funds that should be channeled towards development.

Muya also asked the Uasin Gishu government to promote development across the county without discrimination.

He said that the county has a role to ensure all locals have access to development projects.
