Njoro Member of Parliament (MP) Charity Kathambi now wants the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate Police Officers who have been enforcing the Nakuru County law on potatoes. The officers are accused by potato farmers and traders of soliciting heavy bribes from them while transporting potatoes from various farms to Nakuru town. This led to an ugly confrontation between the officers and traders and farmers on Monday November 19 along Njoro-Narok Road."Corruption has reached a stinking level on Njoro-Narok Road and we now want relevant authority to take an immediate action against the police officers who try to distort money from poor farmers in the name of bribes,” claimed  Kathambi."Police have put roadblocks at Muthangauta, Kihingo and near Ndarugo river where they are asking for very heavy bribes from potato transporters ranging from three to ten thousands. The EACC must investigate them,” added the MP.Speaking to press on Monday evening in Nakuru town, Kathambidefended farmers who were protesting on Monday saying that they are law abiding and they had assembled for a peaceful meeting when the police dispersed them."The farmers' rights must be respected and police must not use force on them,” said the MP.
