Kisii County Secondary School Heads Association ( KESSHA) Chairman, Jairus Onchoke has challenged the ministry of education under the leadership of the Cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i and other stakeholders to come up with measures which will safeguard schools from strikes and fire tragedies.
Speaking on Sunday at Iterio Boys high school following the fire incident which gutted down 10 dorms which is said to have been caused by students, the chairman condemned the incident by challenging stakeholders to come up with measures which will help to curb such incidents.
“It is unfortunate that we just came from Mombassa for a one-week meeting, where we discussed on how to curb this incident,” he said.
“If this is going to continue we are going to have no schools in our area, this matter should be investigated so that the culprits are brought to book," he added.
He added that the security of students and principals is at risk following the torching of the schools, adding that the association will be forced to close down the schools till the matter is addressed to guarantee the principals their security.
“The torching of the schools in quick succession has created fear among principals and students hence we need the matter to be addressed so that we can move forward,” he said.
