Mandera Governor Ali Roba has called upon the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to probe what he termed as illegal voter transfers without their consent.

He said he has also written to the National Intelligence Service to investigate the matter.

Roba claims that some of his supporters’ names are missing from the voter register, while others have been transferred to other voting centers.

Some of those affected include: Banisa MP Abdi Haji, Mandera Township MCA Barre Shabure and a Rhamu MCA contender.

“The IEBC and the NIS should take this matter seriously and step in to establish those behind these transfers and take necessary action,” he said.

He pointed an accusing fingers to the Garre elders being behind the plot so that he fails in the August polls. The governor defied the elders’ ‘negotiated democracy’ where he was to serve for a single term then step down.

He further labeled the elders for encouraging tribalism by resorting to negotiated democracy denying residents their preferred leaders.

Garre clan is the majority in terms of numbers in Mandera and it had that struck a deal through its elders with the other clans to share positions.

“Let democracy take its course so the people decide whom they want. Negotiated democracy will result in hate for some people.”
