It is Monday and anti-IEBC protests are set to take place yet again. Even so, investigations into the brutal manhandling of the Kenya police towards demonstrators last Monday are underway.
It has already been a week since demonstrators were mistreated in the hands of the policemen but no arrests have been made as of yet even though there was enough evidence of the brutality.
The police spokesman, George Kinoti on Sunday stated that the police would still be deployed on Monday to make sure that there is no fracas. He pointed out that the investigations were in process and those who broke the law would be taken into account for their actions.
“We have conducted identification parades and recorded statements. Even ordinary citizens found culpable will be prosecuted,” said Kinoti.
Police officers are tasked with the suppressing of riots and even arresting those who exert violence during protests but they are, however, not allowed to continue using force towards those who retreat or cease fighting back when captured. It is clearly a law breaker.
The police have, however, urged citizens who were brutally assaulted to come forward and record statements so that the investigations can be properly carried out and completed for justice to be served.
So far, at least, five officers have been identified from the Monday riots as those who were using force towards protestors.
