Speaking at a sensitization workshop for junior police officers in Garissa town on Saturday, Northeastern region operation commander Omar Shurie said that they cannot preempt the findings of the investigations because they are still at early stages.
Shurie said that he has met with senior police officers in the region to look into ways of establishing those who have overstayed in one area with a view to transferring them to other places.
“transfer is a normal thing in the police force. we would not wish to have officers committing suicide over an issue that can be solved internally. we have spoken to the police headquarters who have accepted to look into the welfare of the officers,” said Shurie.
Garissa OCPD Aron MoriaI said they are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of the officer on Tuesday evening.
There has been an increasing number of police officers ending their lives in what many believe is as a result of work-related stress and low remunerations.
