The company had promised the investors returns after a three-month period, the protesters said.

The agitated lot were demonstrating over what they termed as theft by the company that had promised them a three-time return on their initial investment pumped into the company.

“We were promised big returns on our investment but after the period of investment elapsed, we felt something was amiss. We were duped and that’s why we are here today,” one of the investors, who requested anonymity, said.

There was a massive traffic jam that lasted several hours as the crowd chanting slogans from Kwambira to Limuru took over the roads and forced shops to remain closed for fear of being looted.

Later, area MP John Kiragu arrived at the scene and managed to calm the crowd that was threating to ambush the company. The lawmaker explained to the crowd the need for a legal way of addressing the situation.

“We should address this matter in a lawful manner. We need to know whether the company is lawfully registered and permitted to operate this kind of business from the Central Bank. The company should therefore settle your issues once investigations are done,” Kiragu said.

The legislator asked the crowd to remain patient as an audit of the company was carried out.
