A firm from Finland has expressed interest in setting up waste processing plant in Nakuru West London Ward and generate power.
The Finland investors from Universal Marketing Enterprises Catalyst Group according to MCA Ann Kimani will burn waste from dumpsites and the residue converted into electric energy and various construction materials.
She said the project will require tonnes of garbage thrown out daily to sustain it generate power adding that the county government is grappling with the management of solid refuse collected in various estates in the area.
After a meeting with Deputy Governor Erick Korir, the investors, led by Eng. Petri Rignell said the project will help manage waste, provide electricity and employment opportunities to youths.
Ms Kimani said dumpsites such as Gioto has been an eyesore to locals adding that she was optimistic that the investment will flourish and ease dumping problem experience in urban centres within Nakuru.
She said after the ban on plastic bags, a need to recycle waste was the only option to clean up the environment.
On his part, deputy Governor Eric Korir supported the implementation of the project adding that the county government had been facing a serious challenge on waste management.
He assured the investors of county support in putting up the project noting that there will be no more need of purchasing land for dumping.
