Nominated MCA Esther Mengere has appealed to Kenyans to involve men in activities organised during the 16 days to mark activism against gender based violence.

“Many of the men are also being beaten in their homes and they are forced to stay silent. As a society we have continued to ignore them. Yet they also have equal rights as the women in the country,” she said.

Ms Mengere lamented the recent incident in Molo where a middle aged man was admitted to Molo hospital after he was slashed with a panga following a domestic quarrel.

Residents of Kiambiriria said the fight erupted after they disagreed over the cash they had gotten from selling their potato harvest.

Stanley Ndichu , a father of three told the press that he was attacked when he arrived home drunk.

“After beating me badly she took a panga and slashed my head and my left leg and it was only after I started screaming that the residents came and rescued me. I was bleeding profusely but my wife managed to escape and hid in the bushes,” he said.

Neighbours said that the two had been fighting for a long time.

They pointed out that the illegal liquor was responsible for many family breakages in the area.

Ms Mengere claimed that men battering in the area was on the increase.

“Many more suffer silently without the knowledge of the neighbors. This is why there are increased cases of suicide,” she added

Police in the area are still investigating the issue.

Contacted, doctors in the hospital said the patient was in a stable condition.
